The convenient position of the apartment.
The kitchen
The position of Chesa Carla could not have been better: 30m from the bus stop, and 100m from the excellent Volg shop. There is a garage, but as we had travelled by public transport we did not use it. Thanks to Roberto in the Loka agency for letting us pick up the keys from St Moritz station.Carla 7 apartment is on the first floor, with the elevator nearby. It has a spacious hall and living area. The double bedroom is a good size with a balcony, and the mattresses and bed linen were very clean and comfortable. There were drawers to put clothes but there wasn't a wardrobe. We had to go into the hall cupboard to hang our clothes as the wardrobe just outside the bedroom was locked. The living room furniture was a little dated, but the overall impression was clean and airy with a large window opening out onto the balcony. We sat out on the south west facing balcony in the deckchairs provided. The TV has a huge selection of channels, and the instructions were good. The information booklet about Sils and the local area left for us is excellent.Your description implied that it had no mountain view, but there was a huge mountain completely visible from the living area! One defect was the kitchen. It is cramped, with the shelves set far too high for a 1.63m person! It was poorly lit as well and the dark brown sink, the dark granite worktop and dark wood used didn't help. We used a clip-on lamp to see. It could do with a microwave oven but otherwise was well equipped with cutlery and cleaning materials. The dishwasher and oven worked well. The basement ski storage area was large enough, but rather dark, as the pushbutton light switch just outside the security door didn't illuminate the ski storage area, and you had to feel around the wall to find the switch. These are very minor faults. We had a lovely week's skiing in hot sun and blue skies, and liked Sils Maria very much. It has good bus connections to St Moritz and further down the Engadine, and we went to Chiavenna in Italy one day, over the Maloja pass.I would recommend the apartment and Sils Maria to anyone.
